Yohimbe is "thought to enhance libido and physical energy in both men and women and may stimulate erection in men.
"Extracted from the bark of West Africa's Corynanthe Yohimbae tree Yohimbine has been used for centuries in the fertility rituals of African tribes." Yohimbe is "thought to enhance libido and physical energy in both men and women and may stimulate erection in men. Reports also indicate Yohimbine may have thermogenic properties (meaning that it may act to elevate body temperature and burns off fat)." 4
Though traditionally, Yohimbe has been used as a treatment for impotence and as a sexual aphrodisiac, "Yohimbe / yohimbine enhances many bodily functions, not just the sexual ones. It increases metabolic rate. You'll feel your digestive organs working better, and body builders have long used yohimbe to get rid of body fat before competitions." 3
What do the experts say?
The German Commission E Monographs reported its unofficial use for sexual disorders, as an aphrodisiac,
and for feebleness and exhaustion. The effectiveness of this herb and its preparations for the claimed applications is not sufficiently documented in the scientific literature, and thus the Commission E categorized it as an unapproved herb.1
The Commission E did not find adequate documentation to support this use. The Evaluation section of the original monograph states, "The therapeutic administration of yohimbe bark and its preparations is not recommended because of insufficient proof of efficacy between risk and benefit."1
